Project Description
The goal of this assignment was to design a cube with an engaging and coherent design language across all six sides, that encourages the viewer to explore all sides of the cube.
Digital Idea Exploration
Because it was determined that it would be quicker and more efficient to proceed with this phase digitally, the decision was made to step away from the usual method of physically sketching ideas.
Iteration
After exploring various ideas on a design language, this is the design language that was determined to be strongest.
Exploring Shifting Axes and Starting Over With a New Design
After Finishing the first side of the design, the professor introduced the idea of shifting the inherent axes of the design and decided to apply it to my design. After starting to apply the concept, however, it was discovered that the concept and the current design would not be cohesive at all, and as a result, decided to start over.
The Other Sides of the Cube
Because of the decision to start over, there was almost no time to separately iterate ideas. Because of this, the process of designing the other sides of the cube began. Small changes to the design were made as the other faces were being developed.
Digital Iteration (Whole Cube)
After finishing all six sides of the cube, a little time was left over to do some small iterations.
Color Pallet
The last step of this process was to pick a color pallet and apply it to the black & white design. Various color schemes and variants of color schemes were explored. After some iterations a blue monochromatic inspired color pallet was eventually chosen to be applied to the rest of the cube.
Color Scheming
After picking the color pallet, different applications of the pallet were explored on the cube. With each application of color scheme, peer reviews were done with the drafts and their feedback applied to the next. The process was repeated until eventually a final design chosen.
